The National Down Syndrome Society envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities.

When NDSS approached Dupont Creative, their site was a mess. It was developed across several different platforms, including a proprietary CMS that complicated updates. Updating their website became so complex that their IT department had to make even the smallest changes, frustrating their team and slowing down website updates.

Not only was the technology outdated, but pages had also been tacked on to the site through the years with little planning, creating a difficult navigation menu for visitors.

Additionally, NDSS’s international Buddy Walk® program needed to be completely restructured for both organizers’ and participants’ unique needs.

The Solution

We began planning the new site by defining each of the different visitor types, from policymakers to expecting new parents. Once we had a clear picture of who was using the site, we created a streamlined sitemap to make navigation less crowded and more intuitive. Finally, we consolidated pages and content to make it easier for visitors to find the information they needed.

As NDSS is constantly growing and changing, they needed a system that would allow them to create pages highlighting new content or programs quickly and easily in-house. To ensure new content could be designed, we created a flexible backend system that allows for fast content updates using a series of flexible content blocks that can be replicated and moved around on each page. The NDSS team can now easily add content and rearrange each page structure to meet their needs.

We created an interactive Buddy Walk® map with a secure organizer portal managed through the website rather than through the multiple third-party forms and excel sheets they previously used to organize Buddy Walks®. This has created a streamlined process, saving both NDSS and their organizers time.

The end product is a mobile responsive website that works well for multiple audiences and is easy to update in-house.
